WAFCON 2022: Super Falcons trash Burundi 4-0; face Cameroon in knockout stage

Nigeria’s female senior football team, the Super Falcons have qualified for the knockout stage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after trashing Burundi 4-0 in the final Group C match Sunday night.

The floodgate of goals was thrown open in the 25th minute after Rasheedat Ajibade was brought down in the 18 yard by the Burundian goalkeeper and the referee signaled a penalty in favour of the Super Falcons.

Ajibade wasted no time scoring his second goal of the tournament making it 1-0.

The Falcons continued their dominance and in the 28th minute Peace Efih scored her first goal to make it 2-0.

The tally was increased courtesy Uchenna Kanu scoring a brace in the 29th and 46th minute after the break sealing the victory for the Falcons at 4-0.

The Falcons will face arch rival, Cameroon on Thursday, July 14 while South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will slog it out with Tunisia.
