Army discloses identity of 5 suspected foreign bandits arrested in Katsina

The Defence Headquarters of the Nigerian Army has disclosed the identity of five suspected foreign bandits arrested during a routine patrol at Jiba Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina.

The suspects are Muritala Wada, Saminu Sani, Shamisu Adamu, Salisu Saadu and Usman Ibrahim.

Briefing journalists on Thursday, Major General Benard Onyeuko, the Director, Defence Media Operations, said the suspect were arrested by troops of operation HADARIN DAJI during their routine patrol in July 25, 2022.

He also said a bandit informant on the watchlist of the Operatives of the Department of State Services was arrested during the period under review.

Onyeuko said, “Troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI in the North West Zone of the Country has continued to sustain operational activities through the conduct of fighting and clearance patrols to clear bandits and terrorists enclaves.

“On July 25 2022, troops on routine patrol arrested five suspected foreign bandits named Muritala Wada, Saminu Sani, Shamisu Adamu, Salisu Saadu and Usman Ibrahim at Jibia in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“Furthermore, between July 31 and August 2 2022, troops arrested one Mallam Yahaya, a notorious bandit informant who has been on the tracking list of the Department of State Security for collaborating with bandits on the numerous attacks in Sabon Brini general area of Sokoto State. Troops recovered 161 cattle, 8 camels, large consignment of clothing from terrorists after an encounter in Zango in Shinkafi Local Government Area.”

Onyeuko revealed that of 1,755 Boko Haram terrorists’ members and their families comprising of 280 males, 523 females and 952 children surrendered to troops at different location within the week under review, adding that all surrendered terrorists and their families were profiled and handed over to relevant authority.

Onyeuko, however, said the Nigerian troops of Operation Delta Safe have apprehended two high profile sea pirates known as Fagha Golden aka fine boy at Nonwa village in Tai Local Government Area and Victor Elkanah aka Victor Padi at Pharzy Spring Diagnostic and Wellness Hospital, One-Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
