Police rescue 3 suspected fraudsters from mob attack in Lokogoma POS scam

Contrary to earlier reports that a mob caught some miscreants while trying to kidnap a female Point of Sale (POS) operator in the Lokogoma area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police Command said it has rescued three (3) suspected fraudsters.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for FCT, Josephine Adeh who disclosed this in a statement Thursday said the police commissioner in charge of the FCT, Babaji Sunday, cautioned the public against jungle justice.

According to the statement, Mr Sunday said: “A preliminary investigation revealed that the mob attacked the suspects after attempting to defraud a female Point-of-Sale (POS) operator.

“The suspects were rescued following the prompt intervention of the police and were currently in police custody”, the statement added.

The incident occurred around Peace Court Estate, on Lokogoma road.

The police commissioner condemned the mob action and urged residents to lodge complaints at police stations to seek justice. He stressed the need to allow justice to prevail at all times, irrespective of the crime committed.

The police chief warned that resorting to self-help is criminal and punishable by law. He said a full-scale investigation was underway to establish the facts of the case.
