7 students’ apartments of Kwara Poly razed by fire

Not fewer than seven (7) self-contained apartments in a private hostel occupied by the students of Kwara State Polytechnic (Kwara Poly), Ilorin the state capital were on Wednesday afternoon razed by fire.

The private hostel known as “GQ Hostel” was located outside the Polytechnic Campus at Apata Yakuba area, Ilorin had seven of the 11 self-contained flats consumed by the fire, according to Punch.

Household materials in the residential building were destroyed by the raging fire.

Confirming the incident, Kwara State Fire Service, said the fire incident occurred at about 12:13pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, as a result of a power surge.

A statement signed by Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity of the state Fire Service, said that “Firemen were able to perform excellently well by immediately stopped the spread of the raging fire, and subsequently eliminated it.

“This firemen’s technicality approach saved the other apartments of the building from the scathed inferno.”

Adekunle said that the total estimated property saved was N10.6million, while the total estimated property lost in the inferno was put at N3.8million.

Meanwhile, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa expressed his sadness over the incident and therefore urged the general public to always play safe in their various domains.
