Gov. Mohammed urges FGN to actualise Kafin Zaki dam project to control flood

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to actualise the Kafin Zaki dam project in order to find a solution to the flood disaster in the state.

Governor Mohammed made the plea after a recurring flood killed three persons in Zaki and Gamawa LGAs of Bauchi State while over 1,400 houses, farmlands, properties, and other valuables were washed away.

The flood also washed away six portions of the road linking Zaki and Gamawa local governments of the state.

The Governor who spoke when he paid a visit to commiserate with the people of the affected areas in Gamawa and Zaki local governments, stated that the Kafin Zaki dam project was the lasting solution that would end the perennial flooding that has caused hardship to the people of the affected communities.

“What we need here is the actualisation of the Kafin Zaki dam that will arrest and harness the water resources that we have coming from the Dilimi River and Jamare river. Technology should be deployed to create and discharge surfaces dams to communities in Borno and Yobe states so that their areas are not dry”.

“I am calling on the federal government to urgently address this issue by bringing all the communities that are suffering into the downstream communities so that perception problems and agitation would be allayed. We would be able to harness the water resources with the huge potential for agriculture and development in these Areas.

“Anything other than that is just scratching the surface. We have to do it because you can see what is happening in Jigawa and other places. We are donating two trailers of maize totaling 1200 bags and two vehicles of medical equipment to cater for people in need,” the governor said.
