How 20-year-old lady in Yobe slaughtered her day-old baby boy

Story from Abdulaziz M. JAURO, Damaturu

Blessing, a 20-year-old lady from Bauchi, has killed her newly born, day-old baby boy by slaughtering it in Nahuta community of Potiskum town, in Yobe State.

A friend to Blessing, who pleaded anonymity, said the incident happened on Friday, 2 September 2022 when Blessing collected a key from her guardian at his shop to go home to refresh herself in the house where she also lives.

The lady said that she is from the same village as Blessing and they are natives of Tafawa Balewa town in Bauchi state together with her guardian.

She added that they came to Potiskum for a greener pasture and to help their parents, considering their family’s financial status.

Another lady who also pleaded anonymity said that they found out that Blessing was pregnant earlier but she denied it, though they had reported to her father.

The representative of the Nahuta Community Head where the incident happened explained that he was dismayed at how the incident occurred.

He said the report came to them at about 8:00 pm on the day of the incident and they invited the police to the scene for further investigation.

The village head added that the lady together with her newly born baby was rushed to the hospital where it was later confirmed that the baby was dead and the mother hospitalised under the custody of the police at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital after which the baby was buried.

Neptune Prime correspondence tried reaching out to Blessing afterwards, to know who the father of the slain baby is knowing that she is not married and also to know the reason behind her action but all proved abortive.

Also, Neptune Prime’s efforts to contact the police on the incident were to no avail.
