Suspected ESN/IPOB gunmen abduct Imo monarch

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network/Indigenous People of Biafra (ESN/IPOB) have abducted Eze Ndenkwo, a popular monarch in Imo State.

Ndenkwo is the traditional ruler of Isiala Umudi autonomous community in Nkwerre Local Government Area of the Imo.

According to reports, he was abducted around 7 pm on Friday at Tetlow Road in Owerri, Imo state capital.

Ndenkwo was whisked away by the gunmen in front of one of his companies, where he serves as the chief executive officer.

A source close to the monarch told journalists that the abductors are yet to establish contact with his family.

“His Royal Highness Eze Jewel Ndenkwo of Udekings Electronics was kidnapped about 7 pm Friday in front of his office at the ever busy Tetlow Road in Owerri,” the source said.

Although the police spokesperson, CSP Micheal Abattam, has yet to react to comments on the incident, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy has confirmed the incident, noting that the administration is working to reduce crime and criminality in the state.
