CAF celebrates Mané as 1st Socrates Ballon d’Or award winner

African football governing body, Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has celebrated Sadio Mané after becoming the first player in history to win ‘Socrates’ Ballon d’or award.

The former Liverpool star before joining Bayern Munich bagged five (5) silverware in his six-year spell at Anfield – the UEFA Champions League (2018/19), English Premier League (2019/20), UEFA Super Cup (2019/20), English FA Cup (2021/22), and the Carabao Cup the same season.

Apart from his achievement with Liverpool football club, Mané also won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal national team and he was voted the best player of the tournament.

Sadio Mane has been able to help a lot of people on and off the pitch and his excellent performance made the Ballon D’or award organizers to give him the ‘Socrates’ Ballon D’or award, which is meant for player with ‘heart of gold’.
