Commuters in parts of Lagos State were on Monday morning stranded as commercial bus drivers under the aegis of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN) commenced a seven-day strike, shut down transportation services across roads, in protest of what they earlier lamented as undue extortion of their members by managers of motor parks.

Some of the areas where commuters were stranded include Okoko-maiko, Iyana-Iba, Abule-Ado to Mile-2 bus stops along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The situation led to only a very few commercial buses daring to ply some of the roads, Neptune Prime can report.
To this, private vehicle owners have taken the advantage by allowing commuters into their cars for a token as long as they are heading to the same direction.
Recall in a report by this medium last Wednesday, JDWAN in a statement said it would embark on a seven-day industrial action over excessive extortion by the management of parks and garages in the state.
The drivers lamented that despite their dedication to work, they had been subjected to indiscriminate extortion, violent harassment by the management.
