Saturday’s last fixture of the English Premier League (EPL) ended in a rather dramatic way as Chelsea Football Club were denied victory at Stamford Bridge after Casemiro’s 95th minute header resulted in his first goal, levelling the game for Manchester United.

The game which dragged on for 84 minutes without a goal brought hope for Chelsea when Scott McTominay brought down Jorginho inside the eighteen yard and the referee signalled for a penalty to give the hosts a lead.

Chelsea were unable to defend their one goal margin when Casemiro’s header which was validated by goal line technology made it 1-1.

Taiwo Awoniyi

Earlier on, Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi who was rejected by Liverpool took his pound of flesh to score against the Reds from close making it the only winning goal for Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old Nigerian forward who joined Liverpool as a teenager in 2015 spent the majority of his Anfield career out on loan in Germany and Belgium before being sold in 2021.

His third goal for Forest on Saturday and against West Ham United few weeks ago suggests he will be a key factor if Forest are to survive in the EPL.

“For me I’m happy but the most important thing is the three points. Now we have to build on it,” he said.

“To score against Liverpool is a day I will never forget. I will always to be grateful to Liverpool for scouting me from Nigeria and scoring against them is amazing.

“This kind of game we have to look back on it and build on it. The game is over and now we concentrate on the next one.”

Awoniyi, who barely celebrated his goal, was congratulated by Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp

Elsewhere, Erling Haaland’s brace and Kevin de Bruyne’s stunning second-half goal earned Manchester City a 3-1 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The victory moved second-placed City on to 26 points after 11 games, one behind leaders Arsenal who visit Southampton on Sunday. Brighton are eighth on 15 points.
