NADDC trains 90 youths on solid works software in Bauchi

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has trained 90 youths from the six states in the North East subregion on solid works software.
The capacity-building workshop was aimed to revive the automotive industry in the country while providing jobs to unemployed youths for self-reliance.
The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Mr Jelani Aliyu said that the training programme came up as a result of skills shortage, especially among the youths in the Nigerian automotive industry.
Mr Jelani Aliyu who declared opened a Northeast capacity-building workshop in Bauchi stressed the need for empowering the youths in the industry across the six zones with 18 participants in each zone who would step down the skills to others.
Represented by a director of research and development with the council, Dr Fidelis Mfewase Achiv, Jelani said that the programme has so far covered four zones with the current Northeast becoming the fifth one and 90 participants on the basis of three participants per state.
He said, “From here we are going to the South-South to complete the training there, and the beauty of this was that all the trainees have been able to grasp the special skills of the software with some of them already starting designing components for the council”.
Jelani explained that some of the trainees are designing components and selling to the international market, with most of them self-employed and employers of labour, and no longer running from pillar to post looking for jobs, and getting money in their own comfort.
He said, “We are going to impact them with this knowledge, after which they are also expected to use the same and design components. It doesn’t really mean that these components must be an automotive base, they can be either mechanical or electrical components provided the designed components can sell to the markets”.
“Components that they can go to the engineering workshop and manufacture and sell, components that can solve engineering problems. So, it is a challenge to them as we are going to give them all the skills they require to get that done, just as we have done in other places”, Mr Jelani said.
“The NADDC automotive design and manufacturing initiative fosters the fabrication of spare parts using local raw materials by Nigerians in order to reduce dependence on imported parts thereby creating much greater opportunities for the Nigerian youth empowerment and job creation,” Mr Jelani Aliyu concluded.
Some of the participants, Abubakar Adamu Mai Salati and Mr Jacob from Yobe and Adamawa states appreciated the council for the rare opportunity afforded them knowledge for software designing for different engineering applications.
