Paradigm shift on Maulud would enhance inter-religious harmony, unity, other virtues – Hassan Gimba

The Publisher of Neptune prime Newspaper, Dr Hassan Gimba has emphasised the importance of Maulud celebrations, the birthday of prophet Muhammad PBUH.
In his words, “Recent sermons, admonitions and audio-visual clips by prominent Wahhabi scholars making the rounds in social media are indicative of a paradigm shift going by their stand on Maulud. Video clips of Sheikh Mufti Menk, the late Dr Ahmad Bamba, and Sheikh Aminu Daurawa are a few examples to cite.

The Annual Unity Week, regular visitations to scholars and institutions, organising a series of lectures, Sallah feasts, and extending hands of fellowships to all tribes and non-Muslims alike by the Islamic Movement are important strategies that are bringing instant positive results.

The future implications of the successes recorded in society are going to be numerous. The positives would include intra and inter-religious harmony, unity among the Ummah, and increased awareness, understanding, and tolerance between various sects and denominations as well as all tribes.

These, alongside others, not mentioned would do a lot of good to Islam, Muslims in particular, and Nigeria in general.”

Dr. Hassan Gimba who was among the special guest speakers at the occasion of 2022 Maulud organised by Resource Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria at Centre for Women Development in Abuja, mentioned that “The doggedness of the Islamic Movement led to the attainment of lots of successes, including the acceptance of reality by the distracters and detractors of Maulud and those sitting on the fence that Maulud cannot be crushed by whatever might. Hence the decision to accept to live with it as part of societal norms”.

The chief Imam of Ashabul Kahfi at Bauchi, Sheikh Dan Azimi Tafawa Balewa, urged Muslims faithful to emulates the qualities of the noble prophet Muhammad PBUH which are truthful, love humanity, justice, equity and fairness irrespective of Religion, tribes, sex, gender as the teaching of Holy Qur’an and Hadith.

In his remarks, Prof Abdullahi Danladi of ABU Zaria expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Muslims are still underdeveloped in western education in Nigeria compared to the rest of the citizens, an anomaly he attributed to bad governance and injustice by the Nigerian policy makers. He added that 62 years after Independence, Nigeria has lost direction in terms of security and development of science and technology talk less of breaching the educational gap among Nigerian citizens.

Pofessor of Political science at University of Abuja Sadeeq Abba spoke on the factors that led to the Islamic Revolution of Sheikh Usman Danfodiyo in Hausa land in 1804 and the challenges that he encountered and the lessons from his sacrifice to ensure the law of Mankind prevailed, urging Muslims faithfuls to be God-fearing in the conduct of their normal business without contravening the right teaching of Islam.
