Winner of Neptune Prime poetry competition, Rita Andrawus, receives prizes in Abuja
The third-place winner of the Neptune Prime poetry competition, Rita Andrawus, has been presented with her rewards at the media house’s head office in Abuja.
19-year-old old Rita Andrawus from Adamawa State emerged third behind 21-year-old Fatima Garba Yusuf who came in second and Ben Okechukwu from Anambra State who won the first spot during the Neptune Prime poetry competition.
The poetry competition which has received over 60 entries from young and creative Nigerians nationwide was organised by Neptune Prime Network Nig. Ltd, publishers of Neptune Prime online newspaper, magazine, and Neptune TV with the theme: “A United Nigeria”, to celebrate Nigeria’s 62nd independence anniversary.
A cash price of N100.000 has been dispersed for the first 3 winners. N50.000 for the first winner, N30.000 for the second, and N20.000 for the third winner. Others were enlisted for employment opportunities at the head office of Neptune Prime in Abuja, and an internship chance is given to anyone who sent an entry in the competition.
Presenting the cash prize to Andrawus in Abuja, Neptune Prime CEO/Publisher-in-Chief, Dr Hassan Gimba, congratulated the young writer and said the competition was organised to support young writers like her and encourage them in the pursuit of their dreams.
Dr Gimba said the competition was the first of its kind and will be a continuous programme.
He said the choice of the theme, A united Nigeria, aims to foster unity among the diverse religions and ethnic groups in the country and encourage good reading/writing culture among young people to make them productive which will reduce insecurity and other social vices in the country.
He also presented The Arbiter, a collection of his writings to Miss Andrawus to inspire and assist her writing skills.
Responding, Rita Andrawus expressed appreciation to Neptune Prime Ltd. for the innovation and said the prizes given to her will encourage and support her achieve her dreams as a young writer.
Rita Andrawus Stephen was born on 25th November 2002 in Pakka village, Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to her, she started writing at the age of 16 under the pen name ARAS with inspiration from her father who is a farmer in Adamawa State.

She is an award-winning writer that has written over 50 different publications in the form of storybooks, short stories, poems, novels, pamphlets, academics, plays, essays, and non-fiction among others.
Her notable works include A Self-controlled girl, Seven poems and three rhymes, A simple Literature in English knowledge, The heart of a lion, The three children and their father, Rose and the rapist and so many others.
