New commissioner of police assumes duty in Nasarawa

The new Commissioner of Police (CP) deployed to Nasarawa State, CP Maiyaki Muhammed Baba, has assumed duty and is soliciting the support and cooperation of all stakeholders in the state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, made this known in a statement Tuesday.

According to the spokesman, CP Baba is an investigative officer, operational tactician and astute administrator. He was born on October 24, 1963.

The new CP hails from Bida, Niger State and was appointed to the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Studies from the University of Calabar.

In the course of his career sojourn, Baba has served as a Divisional Police Officer in Lagos, FCT and Ogun State; Officer in charge of monitoring units, zone 2 and 5, Lagos and Edo states respectively.

Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police was a one-time 2i/c, Zonal State Criminal Investigation Department, Zone 6, Calabar.

Upon his promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, he was posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal and Investigation Department, Gusau, Zamfara and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations in Anambra State where he served meritoriously.

The police spokesman also noted that CP Baba was Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations in Borno and Katsina states, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Anambra and Kaduna states, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, Zone 14, Katsina State and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, Kebbi State until his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police and posted to Nasarawa State.

Nansel further stated that the Commissioner of Police has undergone some courses of career advancement such as an advanced detective course in 1995, an intermediate command course and an internal security/low-intensity conflict course both in 2009; he is a recipient of many awards and his hobbies include: reading, playing volleyball and travelling.

According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the new CP takes over from AIG Adesina Soyemi who has been promoted and posted to Markudi, Benue State as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4.
