Police in Yobe arrests man for locking up, starving wife for one year

The Police Force in Yobe State on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a man, Ibrahim Yunusa, for allegedly restraining and starving his wife, Sadiya for one year.

The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu said the arrest followed a warrant issued by a senior magistrates’ court sitting in Nguru, authorising the Divisional Police Officer in the area to arrest and detain Yunusa.

Abdulkarim alleged that the suspect detained Sadiya in his Nguru residence, depriving her of food, proper medical care and access to family.

“We will soon speak with the victim who is currently on admission at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.

“The suspect will be handed over to the court as requested,” he said.
