Adamawa 1st lady seeks more sensitisation against GBV

The wife of Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, has urged stakeholders to create more awareness against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the state.
Mrs Fintiri made the call at a media briefing for the commencement of 16 days of activism to mark International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women in Yola.
She said that 16 days in the year is not enough for a fight of such magnitude and urged stakeholders to unite and create more awareness.
According to her, there will be a series of activities through out the 16 days to create more awareness against GBV.
“There will be series of programme starting with awareness tomorrow from Mubi roundabout to Ribadu Square followed by series of activities and sensitisation,” she said.
Mrs Fintiri also said her NGO has empowered 50 women and girls in the state in 2022 while others have become beneficiaries of Nigeria Governor’s forum.
In her remarks, Mrs Lami Ga’anda, Commissioner Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development, appreciated the contributions of the first lady and development partners for women empowerment in the state.
According to her, the state data base from January 2022 to October 2022 shows that 610 new cases have been reported in the national GBV dashboard.
She added that Girei, Numan, Demsa Yola-South and Yola-North local government areas reported the highest cases.
Additionally, the report revealed that 93 per cent of the cases were perpetrated against women and girl child by men.
Also speaking, Dr Danladi Idrissa, Programme officer United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) in Adamawa urged stakeholders to unite in the fight against GBV.
According to him, if united a lot of success will be achieved and GBV will be over before 2030.
He also urged government to be proactive in that regard.
Highlight of the event was the unveiling of the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) banner on the 16 days of activism against GBV by the First Lady.
