Insecurity: OSGoF to aggregate intelligence towards boosting fight

Story from Abah ADAH, Abuja

As part of its mandate of providing solution options for various sectors of the Nigerian Economy, the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) will spark a national conversation to aggregate intelligence to further boost the war against armed criminals in the country.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to Neptune Prime on Monday in Abuja, signed by the Office’s head of Media and Public Relations, Abu Michael.

According to the statement, a memo signed by the Deputy Director, Survey Coordination Department of the Office, Surv. Semiu Ayinde, said experts and professionals in surveying and geoinformatics and related fields would converge at the African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (AFRIGIST), situated in the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State in the coming weeks to brainstorm on the requisite geospatial information required to boost the war against the armed criminalities threatening the nation’s peace and unity.

Surv. Ayinde stated that the Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Abudulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, had graciously endorsed the theme, “Geospatial Intelligence for National Security” for the Surveyor Coordination Conference and Meeting of the Advisory Board on Survey Training.

The theme is expected to provoke the desired discourses which would spur informed policies and actions that are pragmatic to inspire robust security network systems for enhanced protection of lives and property as a major priority area of the federal government.

“OSGoF appreciates the prevalent security challenge which is telling much on our commonwealth hence the commitment of the incumbent administration that has been budgeting huge amounts of monies in mobilising both human and material resources to adequately deal with the insecurity in both overt and covert operations.

“It is the pledge of OSGoF to collaborate with relevant authorities to achieve a durable security system and an atmosphere for sustainable development,” the statement said.

Expected to be at the conference which would be chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the OAU, are the Executive Governor of the Osun State, the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, and the Oni of Ife among other personalities.
