2023: INEC receives 4,104 BVAS machines for credible elections in Adamawa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken delivery of 4,104 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines to ensure credible elections in Adamawa State.
Mr Dahiru Jauro, INEC’s public relations officer disclosed this at the conflict mitigation and prevention dialogue ahead of the 2023 general elections organised by the USAID State2State project in Yola.
He said that so far the Commission has concluded 90 percent of its preparations for the 2023 general elections.
According to him, what remains to be seen is a massive turnout of the electorates at polls.
Jauro also described the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as very poor and called on those registered to go and collect their cards.
“For us to have access to quality basic education, quality health care services delivery, quality water sanitation, and hygiene among others, then we must move into action by collecting our PVCs.
“And also to come out on election day and elect individuals who are of unquestionable characters, leaders that can listen to our yearnings and aspirations”, he said.
Hajiya Maryam Dikko, USAID State2State Team Lead, said the objective of the dialogue is to design an electoral violence prevention strategy.
“This will include an action plan to prevent and mitigate the impact of electoral violence on service delivery in the state.
“To identify the impact of electoral violence on internal revenue generation and service delivery, especially on basic education, primary healthcare, and WASH”, she said.
In his remarks, Malam Bashir Ahmad, Secretary to the State Government, called on the participants to actively participate in the dialogue to mitigate and prevent conflict in the state during the election.
Bashir who was represented by Dr Jamila Suleiman, peace scholar from the Centre for Peace and Security Studies, Modibbo Adama University, Yola advised the participants to look back to identify previous challenges.
He called on all stakeholders to come together as no initiative is too small on mitigating conflict during elections.
