The co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr Bill Gates and Alhaji Aliko Dangote has commended Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for upscaling Primary Healthcare in Yobe State.

They gave the commendation in a teleconference meeting at the end-of-year review of the primary healthcare programme.

Gates said the rating of Yobe as the most improved state in Routine Immunisation Coverage was highly commendable.

He described Yobe as a state on track to achieving the universal healthcare standard through improved Primary Healthcare programmes and assured of continuous support to the State.

Similarly, Aliko Dangote, Chairman Dangote Foundation, also commended the state for achieving the most improved position in Routine Immunisation, for institutionalising the system and for the maiden technical review to improve the performance.

He said the implementation of the technical committee reports would sustain the successes recorded in the state.

Meanwhile, WHO, Unicef and other development partners have assured their support to the state.

Responding, Governor Buni said the government would continue to support primary health care programmes in the State.

“We are also about to float the Yobe State Emergency Medical Ambulance Service, and an executive bill in that regard has already been transmitted to the State House of Assembly and is currently at an advanced stage of legislative action.

“These are part of our strategies for reducing maternal, prenatal, and child morbidity and mortality,” Buni said.

He also assured to sustain the achievements recorded and the timely release of counterpart funds to improve the health of the citizenry.
