Commission sensitises Adamawa students on dangers of sexual based violence

The National Human Right Commission (NHRC), in Adamawa has sensitised students on the dangers and effects of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) on health and well-being of children.
Speaking during the sensitisation event at Government Day Secondary School, Luggere, Grace Mamza, NHRC’s acting coordinator said its the right of every student to report any case of SGBV to school authorities.
She said the visit was part of their activities on 16 days activism to end SGBV against women and girls and the commission is always ready take up the matter to ensure justice for survivors.
The coordinator advised them not to allow any person temper with their body especially their private parts.
Mamza said that reporting such an issue would help the survivors to be protected from being infected with HIV/AIDS, sexual transmission diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
According to her, all the services provided are free of charge and will also confidential.
Mamza also appreciated the principals, teachers for their cooperation and urged them to have counselling officer at each school to be observing the students and provide them with counselling when needed.
Mr Danladi Adamu, principal GDSS Luggere, appreciated NHRC for the awareness event and sensitisation.
He said that schools are doing their best to end the menace and the visit improves their capacity to do more than before.
