COSFON hands over conflict mitigation platform to Jakusko LG of Yobe State

The Communal Support Foundation of Nigeria (COSFON) – a national non-governmental organisation operating in Northeast Nigeria and based in Damaturu the Yobe State capital has handed over the Early Warning Early Response (EWER) initiative; Jakusko Community Peace and Safety Partnership (CPSP) to the community after years of mentoring.

CPSP is an Early Warning Early Response (EWER) platform comprising community stakeholders that receive and responds to community safety and security issues so that they are not allowed to escalate into violence.

The handover which took place on the 25th of November 2022 at the Palace of the District Head of Jakusko had in attendance members of the Local Government Administration, as well as stakeholders involved in the initiative.

The CPSP which is an initiative of the Managing Conflict in Nigeria (MCN) Programme is implemented by the British Council with funding from the European Union. It approaches and acts as a conduit between various agencies involved in conflict management, security and reconciliation at the community level.

The programme has supported the establishment of community peace and safety partnerships (CPSP) – community dialogue platforms – to highlight security concerns and jointly identify solutions that focus on community resilience and social cohesion.

At the handover ceremony, ASP Musa Adams, who stood in for the chairman of the Local Government Area, emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence amongst members of the community, and further encouraged them to take advantage of the platform to ensure a sustained conflict resolution mechanism in the area.

He pledged the community’s readiness in sustaining the platform to ensure that Jakusko LGA continues to benefit from a rancour-free forum of conflict mitigation.
