Portugal’s Exit From W/Cup: Mother of Moroccan girl who mocked Cristiano Ronaldo pacifies fans, apologises

All around the world, Cristiano Ronaldo was seen in tears on the pitch at Al Thumama Stadium after Portugal was eliminated against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

Many mocked the Portuguese, including a Moroccan girl who went viral for doing so.

In the video, the girl made a statement mocking Cristiano Ronaldo’s elimination.

She said: “Portugal, over there is the airport.

“Where is Ronaldo? He’s crying in his car. Poor Ronaldo.”

Days after that, the girl’s mother had to make a post on social media because of the harassment her daughter has been subjected to since then.

Those who are parents can perfectly understand this mother, who is looking out for her daughter’s mental health.

She posted: “I am the mother of the girl who became famous because of the video of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I just want to say that now my daughter is going through a very difficult psychological state, to the point that she refuses to eat or talk because of those comments.”

The mother did not realize at the time the damage that could be done to her daughter through social media.

She continued: “I assure you that my daughter did not mean to insult Cristiano Ronaldo because she knows nothing about football.

“She was just repeating what she heard around her. She is nine years old and she just wanted to express her joy, but unfortunately, she was a victim of social media.”

For that reason, the mother appealed for a stop to the abuse that is making her family suffer.

“I apologize to all Cristiano Ronaldo fans for what happened, she is dealing with her mental health.

“Please consider her as if she were your little sister and forgive her”, she added.
