Gov. Fintiri tasks corps members to acquire entrepreneurship skills for self-employment

Story from Usman IBRAHIM, Yola

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has encouraged NYSC corps members to take advantage of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme for self-employment opportunities.

Fintiri made the call while addressing the 2023 Batch ‘A’, stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state at Damare Orientation Camp, Girei.

The Governor who was represented by Professor Maxwell Gidado, Chief of Staff Government House, remind the graduates that white-collar jobs are not readily available.

“I encourage you to avail yourselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the SAED Programme.

“You are expected to choose from any of the skill areas, and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from the orientation camp.

“On our part, management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme”, he said.

Fintiri pledged support toward the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund, currently awaiting presidential assent.

He assured that the security of corps members was posted to the state, and encouraged them to be security conscious at all times.

He said any corps member posted to Adamawa had automatically become indigent of the state, hence the need to feel at home.

“My dear children, you have nothing to fear as far as security is concerned in Adamawa State”, he said.

In his remarks Jingi Denis, NYSC Adamawa State coordinator enjoined the corps members to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws.

“Let me also remind you that the oath of allegiance you have taken today is significant, as it is expected to guide your conduct in the service year as well as have an everlasting influence on your life after service”, he said.

Denis called on the corps members to be serious and actively participate in all the camp programmes and activities as it is a “once-in-a-lifetime”.
