INEC says 253,774 registered voters in Adamawa yet to collect PVC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State has called on voters to rush and collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) before the closing date on January 22.

Mr Hudu Ari, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, made the call at the stakeholders meeting ahead of the forthcoming general elections in Yola.

He said that as at January 10th, 253,774 PVCs were not collected even as elections days are fast approaching.

“The collection shall be ending on January 22, 2023, I call on all stakeholders to join in the crusade for enlightenment, awareness and sensitisation of our citizens to come out and collect their PVCs, because no PVC no election”, he said.

He said INEC Adamawa office had received delivery of 4,104 BVAS as part of the commission’s commitment to use technology to have a credible and transparent accreditation process and transmission of election results.

“We are currently testing the functionality, configuring and labeling the BVAS to ensure one man, one vote and all votes count”, he said.

The REC further disclosed that the commission had published the first batch of 10,165 Ad-hoc staff out of 10,932 applicants.

In his remarks, Sikiru Akande, Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, commended political parties and other stakeholders for the peace maintained since the commencement of the campaign rally in the state.

“I thanked all stakeholders for playing the game according to the rule so far and I want to urge you to continue to ensure that Adamawa remains peaceful.

“On our part, we will remain unpolitical to allow you to do your politics, be rest assured that we will be fair to all”, he said.

Similarly, Mr Sule Halliru, Deputy Director, Department of State Service (DSS) assured that the service will continue to liaise with all stakeholders to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in Adamawa.
