Roads blocked as citizens protest sack of Adeleke as Osun governor

Citizens of Osun State have protested the verdict of the Tribunal nullifying Governor Ademola Adeleke as the state governor.

Recalled that the Tribunal sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Friday sacked Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, saying it had found proof of over-voting.

The Tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately withdraw the certificate of return issued to Governor Adeleke, and present it to his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola.

Reacting to the verdict, unhappy citizens of the state blocked out some major roads in Osogbo and Ilesa in protest against the sack.

The protesters prevented vehicular movement along Osogbo/Ikirun road and blocked Gbongan/Osogbo road to traffic.

Politics Nigeria reports that the protesters beat up many commercial motorcyclists that were operating in the town.

While many commuters were stranded and had to trek long distances to their destinations, many business places did not open to customers over the fear of attack by the hoodlums.
