Police arraign 2 for flogging traditional ruler 

Two persons were on Thursday arraigned in an Iyaganku magistrate court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly assaulting and threatening the life of a traditional ruler, Chief Akeem Tijani, the Baale of Igunrin village.

The defendants, Azeez Bashiru (41) and Sikiru Ogunrin (40), were charged with conspiracy, assault, threat to life and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sikiru Ibrahim, told the court that the defendants and others (at large) on November 22, 2022, at about 4:00pm on Iseyin road, Ibadan, flogged the traditional ruler and threatened violence on his family.

He said the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by blocking the road with stones, bottles and other weapons.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs T. B. Oyekanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to March 1, 2023 for hearing.
