Gov. Buni calls for peaceful conduct during election

Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has advised people of the state to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the elections.

This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s
DG, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed.

The governor said, “Yobe State has a tradition of peaceful elections, this should be sustained to promote peace in the state.

Governor Buni said there is no election that is worth the blood of any citizen because democracy and good governance can only thrive when there is peace and peaceful coexistence.

According to the governor, political differences must never cause hate and chaos among the good people of the state.

“We remain brothers and sisters in spite of our political differences. These differences should not be used to divide us, we should therefore play the game peacefully according to rules,” Governor Buni advised.

He said as a state recovering from security challenges, the citizens have a responsibility to promote peace and security across the state.

The governor urged politicians and political parties, opinion leaders, traditional rulers, and parents to caution their wards and youth to shun violence and thuggery before, during, and after the elections.

He directed security operatives to watch out for black spots for a proactive approach.

Governor Buni assured that the law will take its full course on all election offenders, persons, or groups who go against the laws.

“I also call on our religious leaders and everyone to pray for a peaceful and successful election in our state and Nigeria generally,” Governor Buni said.
