Redesigned naira policy is another COVID pandemic – Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has described the hardship caused by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s redesigned naira policy as another pandemic like COVID-19.

Speaking during the distribution of palliatives at the government house on Monday, February 20, Ganduje claimed that Kano residents are the most affected by the “unfortunate development.

“We didn’t invite this situation, neither did we pray for it. We don’t welcome it at all. We gave similar palliatives during the COVID-19 days.

“Today our citizens are being faced with COVID-23 caused by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“We earlier thought it was a simple disease, but unfortunately it turned out to be a very serious virus.

“This virus which came from the CBN has affected all our commercial banks, our POS, our ATM machines, and all other things associated with this.

“We will not stop blaming the CBN for this economic blunder. We love our people. Therefore, anything that will disturb their well-being must be rejected,” Ganduje said.

Governor Ganduje of Kano alongside other state governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dragged the federal government and the CBN before the Supreme Court over the new naira notes implementation policy.

In the suit, the state governments complained about the scarcity of the old and new Naira notes and prayed that the court extends the deadline for the implementation or allow both old and new notes to coexist.

The governors said they are worried about the effects the CBN naira redesign policy is having on the residents of their states and how it has crippled economic activities.
