Majority Leader, Alhassan Doguwa, arrested over murder of opposition supporters

The Department of Security Service (DSS) has arrested the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Dogowa.

It was gathered that Doguwa was on his way to Saudi Arabia for a lesser Hajj when he was picked up at Mallam Aminu Kano International airport on Tuesday.

The arrest is related to his alleged role in the the murder of about 15 opposition supporters in Tudunwada Local Government during the just concluded election.

Reports claimed that some of the helpless people were locked in a building and burned to ashes, a situation that made it impossible for them to be rescued. Several others were shot and injured by Doguwa in his quest to win the election.

Videos sighted by SAHELIAN TIMES showed charred bodies being evacuated from the NNPP Tudunwada office. In one of the videos, the victim was interviewed and he identified Doguwa as the person that shot him.

A source in the police said Doguwa was picked up on Tuesday at the Mallam Aminu Kano international airport while boarding a flight to Abuja.

The source said the police received a report in Tudun Wada alleging that Doguwa led the thugs that set ablaze the secretariat of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the area, with two persons feared dead.

“He is currently cooling off in the state criminal investigation department,” the source said.

Earlier on Tuesday at a media briefing, Doguwa denied the allegation that supporters of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), were responsible for the fire that gutted the secretariat of the NNPP in Tudun Wada LGA of the state.

During the briefing, Doguwa also said he learnt that the police were looking for him but said he had not received any formal invitation.

“I never held a gun. I don’t even know how to hold a gun. I also never held any weapon throughout the election,” he had said.
