Oladimeji while explaining said the party made the decision to avoid further attacks on party members by hoodlums as reported last week Thursday when the Director-General of the Atiku Campaign Council in Rivers State, Dr. Ebiye Sekibo allegedly escaped assassination attempt.
He made this known in an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday.
“Rivers State has always been loyal to the PDP, and we believe that Governor Wike will do the needful and prevent unfortunate incidents,” Oladimeji said.
“We told him that we would not visit there for the campaign due to insecurity. There have been attacks on Atiku’s supporters in the state, and we expected him to curtail the insecurity, but he has failed to do so. Wike is the Chief Security Officer of Rivers State, and he liaises with the police and the army in the area.
He added, “As the CSO of the state, Governor Wike is aware of the attacks on PDP members in Rivers State.” Some of Atiku’s supporters were attacked with guns and machetes. Yes, Atiku campaigned in Borno and Zamfara despite the attacks on PDP members in both states.
“However, both attacks are different from what is ongoing in Rivers State. It is totally different. When was the last time you heard about an attack on our supporters in Zamfara? Things do not work the way you think.
“We expect Governor Wike to do the needful. We have campaigned in Abia and Oyo states. We also plan to campaign in Enugu. Atiku has already stated that we cannot afford bloodshed.
