Gamboru Market Fire: I once brought tomatoes to this market as a truck driver – Gov. Zulum

Borno State Governor, Baba Gana Zulum, has reminisced the days when he used to be a tomato truck driver who conveys farm produce to the popular Gamboru market near Customs area in Maiduguri, Borno State capital which was gutted by fire on Saturday, March 18.

The governor while addressing victims of the burnt market said he is familiar with the market and the environment.

According to the governor who was reelected for his second term in office in the March 18 governorship and state assembly election, there were days he will spend the night in his truck.

The governor noted that he was not only a supplier of tomatoes to the market but onions and other farm produce to earn a living.

It is a known fact by all and sundry that Zulum is loved by many in the lower strata of the society because of his humble background.

“There is nothing anybody will tell me about this market and its environment because i was a truck driver that normally bring tomatoes, garden eggs and Onions to this market,” the governor said.

“Also there is nothing anybody can tell me about this place that I dont know, more so that, when I used to bring goods here I do sleep in my truck,” he added.

On his part, Dr. Hassan Gimba, publisher of Neptune Prime online newspaper said, the masses of Borno State have always seen Professor Zulum as part of them because he has been a bus conductor and taxi driver and when he became the Rector of Rhamat Polytechnic, his frugality helped him to save money to build additional buildings in the school.
