Strike averted as CBN responds to labour union demands
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called off its planned mobilisation of workers nationwide to picket offices of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) across the country.

President of the labour union, Comrade Joe Ajaero disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
According to Ajaero, the suspension of the planned protests, is due to the meeting with CBN management and compliance by the CBN and other commercial banks to make cash more available to Nigerians.
Ajaero noted that the NLC has decided to extend the ultimatum and give the CBN two weeks to see how the commercial banks comply in distributing the naira notes to every part of the country, adding that already queues are reducing in banks.
Meanwhile, speaking earlier at the weekly ministerial briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige expressed optimism that the positive response by the CBN to the demands of the union will avert the strike in the banking sector.
