Meet the female amazons who thrashed men to win elections

The just concluded 2023 general elections have 19 women who won the National Assembly and State Assembly election out of the 1,524 women that contest seats in the polls. In the federal lawmakers elected so far, women got two seats in the Red Chamber,(Senate) 13 seats in the Green Chambers,(Reps) and four seats in the state Assembly.

The deputy governor of Rivers State, Ipalibo Banigo, was elected the representative for Rivers West Senatorial District under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kingibe Ireti was also elected the Senator for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Labour Party(LP). She is the wife of Baba Gana Kingibe, a former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

The 13 women who made it to the House of Reps seat

Orogbu Obiageli, representing Awkwa North/Awka South Federal Constituency, won under the Labour party (LP).

Nnabuife Chinwe Clara of Young Progressives Party (YPP), representing Orumba North/ Orumba South Federal Constituency.

Gwacham Mauren Chinwe of All Progressive Congress Alliance (APGA), representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency.

Ebikake Marie Enenimiete of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP), representing Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency.

Akume Regina of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency.

Onuh Onyeche Blessing of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency.

Zainab Gimba of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Bama/Ngala/Kala-Balge Federal Constituency.

Ibori-Suenu Erhiatake of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency.

Onuoha Miriam Odinaka of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Isiala Mbano, Okigwe, Onuimo Federal Constituency.

Beni Butmak Lar of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP), representing Langtang North, Langtang South Federal Constituency.

Goodhead Boma of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), representing Akuku Toru, Asari Toru Federal Constituency.

Bukar Abba Ibrahim Khadijah Waziri of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Damaturu, Gujuba, Gulani, Tarmuwa Federal Constituency.

And lastly, Fatima Talba of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Nangere Potiskum Federal Constituency.

A 26year old journalist name Rukayat Motunrayo Shittu, of the All Progressive Congress ( APC), won Owode/Onire State Constituency in the Asa local government area of Kwara State.

Munira Suleiman Tanimu, the wife of Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba of the All Progressive Congress (APC), won Lere East, Lere LG, Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Omotayo Adeleye-Ishaya and Comfort Nwuchola won in Ijumu and Ibaji State Constituency seats, respectively.

Both were candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and were also the first females to represent their respective constituencies in Kogi Assembly.
