No attack on INEC Chairman’s residence in Bauchi – Police
The Bauchi State Police Command has denied reports that the residence of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was attacked by hoodlums, on Saturday.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil and obtained by Neptune Prime.
The police also stated that the online video which contained the purported attack on the INEC Chairman’s house is fake urging members of the public to disregard the content.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Bauchi State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video making the rounds in the media that the Bauchi residence of Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was attacked by hoodlums, on Saturday.
“We categorically wish to state that the video and its content is entirely fake, as no such event occurred within or around Bauchi metropolis, earlier today.
“However, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan, cognizant of the negative impacts of disinformation on public peace, and security, particularly in this our post-election period, has already ordered a discreet investigation to unravel the origin of the video, with a view to ensuring that the fabricator of the viral clip face the full wrath of the law.
“Once again, the Bauchi State Police Command reiterates that there was no attack of any nature on the residence of the INEC Chairman in Bauchi.
“As such, the general public is hereby urged not to panic, while also disregarding the fake video and its malicious content.”
Meanwhile, reacting to the report, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman in a tweet on Saturday, said the property does not belong to his principal and that he does not own any property in either Bauchi or anywhere else around the world.
He wrote, “The property being purportedly attacked by some youths in a video clip circulating on the social media does not belong to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
” The INEC Chairman does not own the property in question in either Bauchi or anywhere else around the world.
“This narrative is indeed the latest in the series of desperate smear campaign efforts by mischief makers. The public should disregard it.”
