The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the governorship election in Adamawa State inconclusive two days after voters cast their votes.
The commission said it cannot announce any winner among the two leading gubernatorial candidates due to the margin of votes and needs to commence results verification.
The road to the Adamawa State Government House was keenly contested between the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Aishatu Dahiru popularly called Binani and the incumbent, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Earlier, results from 20 local government areas announced by INEC show that Senator Binani of the APC has won 14 states with 390, 275, while Finitri of the ruling party leads with 421,524 votes from just five states.
Prof. Mohammed Mele, state collation officer, and Mr Yakubu Ari, Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, said the results are inconclusive as the commission needs to verify the number of votes coming from Fufore local government area, which is the ancestral hometown of the APC candidate.
INEC ordered the recompilation of election results in some parts of Fufore following widespread disruption of collations by political thugs.
Similarly in Kebbi State, INEC’s Returning Officer, Professor Yusuf Sa’idu, declared the governorship election results inconclusive because of the cancellation of results in some polling units.
Collated results show that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate was in the lead with 388,258 votes, while his closest challenger, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate garnered 342,980 votes.
Prof. Usman noted that the postponement was necessitated due to the cancellations of election results in 20 of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state which cuts across a number of Registration Areas (RAs) in different polling units with a total of 91,829 voters which more than 45,278 difference in the votes between the leading candidate and his closest challenger.
Two major political parties contesting the governorship election in Kebbi State are the APC with Alhaji Nasiru Idris and Major General Aminu Bande (retired) of the PDP.
