Six suspected ballot box snatchers killed in Benue

Six persons were said to have been shot dead for allegedly snatching ballot boxes during the governorship and houses of assembly elections in some parts of Gboko local government area of Benue state.

An eyewitness account had it that some youths snatched the ballots in NKST primary school, Gboko South and took off, but ran into soldiers on patrol, who killed six of them, while others sustained gunshot wounds in the process.

The Will reports that a similar incident took place at Hausa quarters also in Gboko South.

It was gathered that some of the snatchers who sustained injuries have been taken to the General hospital, Gboko, for medical attention with the bodies of victims deposited at the morgue.

In Agatu local government area, the Abube youths were alleged to have attempted to disrupt the voting process, but the vigilant security agents dispelled them.

However, in Vandeikya local government area, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Fr Hycinth Alia, voted at Mbadede in Bako market square, with others in high spirits.

Alia commended INEC for improving on the lapses recorded in the presidential and national assembly election held on February 25 and pledged to all candidates to accept results that will be announced by the electoral umpire.
