Super Falcons defender, Onome Ebi, aiming for last World Cup at 40
Nigeria’s Super Falcons defender, Onome Ebi, may appear in the green-white-green jersey for the last time as she prepares for this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand later in July.

Ebi who plays her professional football with FC Levante Las Planas in the Spanish Liga F (Female League) will be the oldest player in the tournament as she clocks 40 in May.
The center-back specialist for both club and country made her senior debut for the Super Falcons in 2003 during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ebi’s wealth of experience and her 20 years of contribution to the national team has put the Super Falcons on the stage of continental and global football helping the country win the WAFCON title for six times in 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018 since her introduction into the national team.
The 39-year-old became the first African footballer to appear in five FIFA World Cup tournaments in 2019.
The number 5 player has bagged two league titles while playing for Ataşehir Belediyespor in Turkey in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 edition. One Belarusian league title and Belarusian Women’s Cup for FC Minsk in 2014 and the Super Cup in 2014 and 2015.
Onome was also named the NFF-Aiteo Female Player Of The Year in 2018 and the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) CAF Woman Team of the Decade from 2011 to 2020.
More is expected from her as the Super Falcons face Australia, Canada and Republic of Ireland in Group B in the Women’s World Cup kicking off in July 2023.
