UNILORIN law student bags international award
A 500-level law student at the University of Ilorin, Abdurrazaq Gidado, has bagged the Mwape Peer Awards during a ceremony held in New York, United States of America.
Abdurrazaq Gidado won the ‘Diplomatic Excellence’ category which is been awarded for the first time in 13 years, making him the first winner in that category.
The category is basically meant to appreciate the efforts of individuals who have strived for a greater good in various fields across borders.
The illustrious Youth Ambassador won the category for his marvelous work in ending the Global Education Crisis.
Gidado, a Global Youth Ambassador at “Theirworld,” a global children’s charity devoted to resolving the education crisis around the world, has won numerous awards in various categories over the past three years.
He is a member of the Global Ambassadors For Sustainability. A global initiative meant to promote sustainability and build international partnerships.
The young student is passionate about Sustainable Development Goals; 3,4 and 5, that is, Good Health, Quality Education, and gender equality respectively.
Gidado has added the 2023 Mwape Peer Awards to his several awards which include, The Most Supportive Law Student in Nigeria 2020, Most Supportive Activist Human Rights Chamber Unilorin 2022, The Law Student of the Year, University of Ilorin, 2021, and the Most Promising Activist of Human Rights Chambers, University of Ilorin, 2019.
Gidado was conferred the honour of the Commander Of The Order Of Law Student Association of Nigeria (COL) in 2021 and Senior Activist of Human Rights Chambers (SAHRC) in 2022.
The Mwape Peer Awards is a non-profit initiative established in 2010 by Ruth and James Mwape, of New Jersey, USA as a way to give back to the people by providing a platform that recognises individuals who, without the benefit of visibility or influence, made a difference through their creativity, energy, and sheer tenacity.
Initially, the prestigious award was given to the Zambian unsung heroes and heroines because of the background of the founders.
However, in 2014, it was opened to all Africans in and outside the continent.
The initiative prides itself in promoting, acknowledging, and recognising the outstanding efforts of Africans at home and in the diaspora.
