Lagos police apprehend suspect in sexual assault of 9-month-old baby
A man allegedly sexually assaulted a 9-month-old baby in the mother’s room in Railway, Ijora Badia, in the Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
After the incident on Monday, March 27, 2023, the suspect went into hiding, but he was apprehended by police officers in the late hours of Tuesday, March 28.
The victim’s 16-year-old mother immediately reported the incident to a nearby police station.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect entered the room while the mother was out and sexually assaulted the baby. When the mother returned and discovered what had happened, she went to the police station to report the crime.
Hundeyin stated that the police officers on duty gave the mother a medical form to take the victim to a hospital for treatment and began investigating the matter immediately. A concerned member of the public had reported the case to the police around 10 pm on Monday.
After a search, detectives from the Ijora Badia Division found the suspect on Tuesday around 11 pm and brought him in for questioning. During the interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
