Anambra Auto-Crash: One dead, four injured as truck collides with Honda CRV

A truck driver lost his life while four other persons sustained injuries in an auto-crash in Anambra State.

The accident occurred at Nteje area in Oyi local government along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Sunday, involving a truck and a Honda CRV with five passengers on board.

It was learnt that the Honda driver, who is now deceased, was about to negotiate the junction when the truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into it due to loss of control.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi attributed the cause of the crash to speed and loss of control.

He sympathized with the deceased’s family and prayed for the injured, and warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.

He said, “A fatal road traffic crash was recorded on 16th April 2023 before the Ukpo junction, along the Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway.

“Two vehicles were involved in the crash, a Commercial Howo truck (10 TYRES) with Registration Number: JUX 95 XA and a Private Honda CRV with Registration Number: LFA 224 TN.

“The probable cause of the fatal road traffic crash was speed and loss of control by the truck driver.

“Five persons were involved in the crash, comprising 5 male adults. Four male adults sustained varying degrees of injury, and 1 male adult was killed (the driver of the CRV).

“The crash victims were rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka.

“Meanwhile, the deceased victim is still trapped under the truck. Efforts are being made by FRSC personnel at RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command to remove the trapped body.

“Personnel on the ground are managing traffic and ensuring that the obstruction caused is cleared.”
