De Bruyne’s brace, Haaland’s goal crush Arsenal title hope
Arsenal’s hopes of clinching the 2022/23 English Premier League (EPL) title might not be feasible following their 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
Their defeat on Wednesday was arguably their worse outing after three consecutive draws with Liverpool, West Ham United and Southampton.

City had a fantastic night as Kevin De Bruyne found the back of the net in the opening seven minutes of the game to give his side the lead after which it was doubled in the closing minutes of the first half to make it 2-0 courtesy John Stones’ header whose goal was considered after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check.
City’s rout on goals continued in the 54th minute as De Bruyne scored his second goal to make it 3-0.
After 86 minutes of action, league leaders, Arsenal got a consolation goal courtesy Rob Holding’s strike to reduce the tally by 3-1.
City had the last laugh before the final whistle in the 95th minute as Erling Haaland scored his 33rd goal of the season to make it 4-1.
Wednesday’s victory for City earned them 73 points just two points behind Arsenal who are 75.
Elsewhere, it was a fifth consecutive defeat for Chelsea’s care taker manager, Frank Lampard whose side lost 0-2 to Brentford at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool secured an away 1-2 victory over West Ham United.
Nothingham Forest had a great night after beating Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1.
