Gov. Buni approves N73 million to feed less privileged during Ramadan

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the sum of N73 million for feeding the less-privileged under its 2023 Ramadan Feeding Programme.

Alhaji Mala Musti, the state commissioner for religious affairs, stated this at a media briefing in Damaturu.

He noted that the provision of cooked meals by the state government to the needy during Ramadan is a tradition since 1999.

The commissioner said the ministry had already taken delivery of 1,050 bags of rice for the programme, saying more bags would be received for full implementation of the programme.

“The amount approved by the government, N73 million, will be used for the purchase of rams and cooking condiments across 67 feeding centres created in the state.

“We have scheduled to make our officers go round and inspect all the feeding centres; we can’t leave it like this for people to go and do whatever they like,” Musti said.

He called on wealthy individuals to key into the programme, saying that there is an enormous reward in feeding the poor, especially during Ramadan.

He added that the governor also approved N30 million as allowances to Islamic clerics to facilitate various religious activities within the fasting period.
