Love Turned Sour: Benue man stalks, kills ex-girlfriend in Kaduna

The family of 23-year-old Ada Ebenezer Agada is in mourning following the brutal murder of their daughter by her ex-boyfriend, Sam Kenneth.
According to reports, Kenneth was caught in the act on Tuesday, April 14th, at around 9 pm.
He had allegedly been staying at a military hotel close to the crime scene for three days after traveling from a yet-to-be-identified village in Benue State on a revenge mission.
Unknown to Ada, Kenneth had been able to track her movements between her house on Sokoto Road and Benue Plaza, where she worked. Both locations are located off WAFF Road and are less than 200 metres or six buildings apart.
The deceased had been staying with her aunt, who works at Command Secondary and Nursery School, Sokoto Road. Ada’s biological parents had allegedly opposed her proposed marriage to Kenneth back in Benue, which is why she was living with her aunt.
When a reporter from Saturday Sun visited Ada’s aunt at home near the popular NEPA roundabout in Kaduna, the middle-aged woman was still in shock and unable to share the last moments she had with her niece.
A source, who spoke in confidence, said that Kenneth’s parents, whose house was not far from Ada’s parents’ house in Benue, had run away when news of their son’s involvement in a murder case spread.
“He was hiding inside the gate. As soon as she opened the gate, he attacked her, cutting her mouth wide from her cheeks, making her unable to scream for help. Before help could reach her, she died because she lost so much blood,” the source said.
The deceased’s last employer, a pharmacist named Dele, described her as a dedicated staff member, even though she had only worked at his pharmaceutical store for about 10 days.
“Her death remains a rude shock to me. She has been with us for 10 days. She resumed on April 4th, and the incident happened on the 14th of the same month.”
“She came here through her aunt, who happens to be our customer. She had a degree in this line of business. She applied, and I interviewed her in the presence of her aunt, and that was how she resumed on April 4th.
“Unfortunately, as soon as I reached home, I got a call that she had been killed 30 minutes ago. I was like, how? Where? The following day, I drove down to the house where I met the aunt and other people around her, weeping profusely.
“The good thing is that the culprit was apprehended by the people around that very night she was killed immediately she entered the gate to her house.
“Within her few days of staying with us, she was a calm lady. Although she did receive a lot of calls, that was not my business, as long as she was doing her work. She was faithful to her duty within that short time we knew her,” he said.
The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mr. Jalige, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident and said that the suspect has been helping the police with their investigation.
According to Jalige, Kenneth was rescued and subsequently arrested when he was about to be lynched by a mob that caught him in the act.
“Information gathered reveals that the suspect, Kenneth, attacked his girlfriend, Ebenezer Agada of Command Secondary and Nursery School, Sokoto Road, Kaduna, with a machete, inflicting multiple injuries on her face, arms, and hands.
“In the process of the attack, he severed her left hand completely, alleging that he had spent a lot on her and she wanted to dump him for another man.
“The victim was rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for treatment where a medical doctor on duty confirmed her dead on arrival. The corpse has been deposited at the same hospital for an autopsy. The investigation is currently on-going,” Jalige said.
