PSC dismisses three police officers, demotes others for indiscipline
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) and the reduction in rank of an assistant commissioner of police, chief superintendent, two superintendents, and one assistant superintendent for various offenses ranging from indiscipline to insubordination, among others.
The commission also approved severe reprimands for an assistant commissioner of police, a chief superintendent of police, four superintendents, two deputy superintendents, and 12 assistant superintendents of police. Six officers, one superintendent, and five assistant superintendents also received punishment of reprimand.
The decisions were made during the 20th plenary meeting of the commission, which was held on Wednesday at the corporate headquarters of the commission in Jabi, Abuja.
The meeting was presided over by the commission’s chairman, Dr Solomon Arase, a former inspector-general of police.

According to the commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, the plenary also approved the promotion of 109 senior staff of the commission.
During the meeting, Dr Arase congratulated the newly promoted staff and reminded them that their new status was a call to more sacrifice in their conduct of government business.
The chairman assured the newly promoted staff that promotion would be a priority during his tenure, but they must be ready to improve themselves and be prepared for the challenges ahead. He also called on the police to ensure that they work within the established laws guiding their operations.
Dr Arase promised that disciplinary matters would be handled promptly so that officers who are found wanting will serve their punishments while those who are exonerated can continue with their career progression without hindrance.
This was the first meeting that Dr Arase presided over as chairman of the commission.
