The story of Yang Gufei, beautiful woman whose father in-law snatched from son
Yang Yuhuan (Chinese: 楊玉環; 22 June, 719 – 15 July 756), often known as Yang Guifei (楊貴妃, with Guifei being the highest rank for imperial consorts during her time), and known briefly by the Taoist nun name Taizhen (太真) was the beloved consort of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang during his later years. She is known as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China.
Initially she was married to the Emperor’s son but when the Emperor saw her he was captivated by her Emperor Xuanzong and he hijacked her from his son. The son was forced to divorced her, the Emperor made her become a Taoist nun named Taizhen and at the end made her an imperial consorts.
During the An Lushan Rebellion, as Emperor Xuanzong and his cortege were fleeing from the capital Chang’an (Beijing) to Chengdu, the emperor’s guards demanded that he put Yang to death because they blamed the rebellion on her cousin Yang Guozhong and the rest of her family. The emperor capitulated and reluctantly ordered his attendant Gao Lishi to supervise her forced suicide.

Yang Guifei was a strong distraction for Emperor Xuanzong and everybody then blamed her for the eventual fall of the Tang dynasty. Yang Guifei was a great Singer and a great Dancer, and she was a masterpiece in beauty. All her Siblings and relatives became rich due to her connection with the ruling family. They were all killed during the rebellion.
Inference:
The ancient world worshipped beauty of women as the history of Helen of Troy and Yang Guifei has shown. In contemporary world, the beauty of women is relegated to the background as this does not affect politics and governance. Today nobody cares who is the most beautiful woman in USA, for example.
