Abuja airport reopens as investigations begin into Max Air crash landing
Normalcy has returned to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja (NAIA), after the reopening of the runway, which was temporarily shut down following the crash landing of a Max Air aircraft on Sunday.
In a statement, Captain Musa Nuhu, the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Agency (NCAA), confirmed that “several domestic and international flights were stranded at Abuja airport, with incoming flights being diverted to other airports.”
The damaged wheels of the aircraft have been replaced, allowing it to taxi under its own power from the runway to an assigned parking position.

Following this, the runway underwent a thorough inspection and was cleared of any damage or debris by officials from NCAA, FAAN, and NAMA.
Subsequently, the runway was declared safe, and the airport reopened for flight operations after 8 pm.
Captain Nuhu further assured the public that both the Nigeria Safety Investigation Board (NSIB) and NCAA would conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The aim of this investigation is to determine the root cause and provide appropriate recommendations to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future.
He emphasized that the traveling public should rest assured that NCAA and other aviation agencies would spare no efforts to ensure the continued safety of flight operations in Nigeria, as has been the case for several years.
