Group urges PMB to ensure speedy confirmation of NEDC Board nominees

The North East Youths Progressives Forum (NEYPF) has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) to intervene and ensure the speedy confirmation of nominees for the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

The forum made the demand in a letter addressed to President Buhari and signed by Honourable Usman Adamu, Chairman of NEYPF.

The letter obtained by Neptune Prime was tagged ‘Petition To President Muhammadu Buhari’ and alleged that some leaders and stakeholders in the North East are trying to stop the Senate from confirming the nominees.

The letter read, “Mr President, we the North East Youths Progressives Forum (NEYPF) wish to express our heartfelt appreciation for the approval of nominations for the governing board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), through the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

“Mr President, the nominations of Barrister Bashir Bukar Bale (North East, Yobe), Chairman, Governing Board and Umar Abubakar Hashidu (North East, Gombe), MD/CEO, is a good development and shows your efforts in ensuring youth inclusion and legacy of good governance which is fully engraved in the sands of time.

“However, we want to bring to your utmost attention of disturbing sinister moves of some leaders and stakeholders in the North East to stop the Senate confirmation of the nominees into the Governing Board of the NEDC to embarrass the president.

“Mr President, we believe that the appointment of the governing board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and all other federal appointments remains the sole prerogative of the president.

“And we believe that you have made the best choices in the nominations of the Chairman and the Managing Director of the NEDC.

Mr President, the plot to stop the Senate from confirming the nominees, by all means, is embarrassing the exalted office and person of Mr President.

“Mr President, it is important to point out that the plot is being secretly spearheaded by those who parade as loyalists of Mr President in the daytime but wear a treacherous dress to sabotage the President’s agenda in pursuit of a desperate ambition to control the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for their selfish interests.

“Mr President, we have confirmed that this selfish group of leaders and stakeholders in the North East are bent on doing everything possible to disqualify the Chairman and MD/CEO, which was painstakingly nominated through the Ministry.

“The so-called leaders and stakeholders want to sabotage the nominations in preference for another they believed would favour their ambitions.
These people claim to be for Buhari during the day but obviously undermine him at night.

“Mr President, these saboteurs who are ordinarily close to you are working on the premise that when the Senate stops the confirmation of the nominees, they will approach the President with the hope of having another chance to influence their choice of the preferred candidates to emerge as the Chairman and MD/CEO of the commission.

“Mr President, these elements and their backers want to turn the North East Development Commission into their personal business. We, as youth progressives stakeholders, have unanimously accepted these nominations and agreed to a speedy confirmation and nothing can change that.

“Mr President, there is need for your urgent intervention by calling on the Senate to speedily confirm the nominees as you have made an excellent nominations which has enjoyed widespread applause both locally and internationally and the best we all can do is to give support and not let the undertakers succeed in turning the commission to their personal business,” the letter said.
