Neptune Prime reports that the prosecution counsel headed by S.A. Adebese and Morufu Animashaun, requested that Mr Kuti be remanded in police custody for 21 days pending an advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Their request was, however, countered by Mr Kuti’s legal team headed by Femi Falana, SAN, stating their lack of awareness regarding it.

Sequel to the brief recess, the magistrate in her ruling stated that she would not only rely on the police investigation.

Therefore, she ordered the defendant to be remanded in police custody for duration of 48 hours.

The magistrate affirmed, “The court has decided to prioritize its judgment over public opinion,” and advised that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the DPP within 72 hours.

The police is expected to conclude their investigation within 48-hour period in which the defendant would be eligible for bail, set at the sum of N1 million, provided two responsible sureties are presented.

Also, the sureties must furnish a verifiable three-year tax payment receipt, and one of them must own a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case has been adjourned until May 23, 2023, for mention, allowing for further legal proceedings and developments in this ongoing matter.
