FCTA strengthens law enforcement with the creation of investigation, prosecution department
The Federal Capital Territory Executive Committee (FCT EXCO) has recently granted approval for the establishment of a new department of investigation and prosecution.
The department will be located in the legal services secretariat, aiming to enhance law enforcement and compliance within the territory.
This decision was reached during the 18th meeting of the FCTA executive committee held in Abuja.
The EXCO emphasized that the newly formed department would be responsible for conducting investigations into various offences, including forgery of land documents, fraudulent transactions, abuse of office, bribery allegations, general corrupt practices, security breaches, and other infractions related to the FCTA.
The department will collaborate with relevant law enforcement agencies in carrying out its duties.
Furthermore, the department will handle investigations of petitions and requests from individuals, groups, corporate bodies, and law enforcement agencies, among others. It will maintain records and data of the investigated cases and monitor ongoing investigations conducted by law enforcement and security agencies in the FCTA.
The department will also provide assistance and guidance to these agencies in their investigations concerning matters affecting the FCTA. Additionally, it will coordinate training programs for its personnel in partnership with various law enforcement and security agencies.
The EXCO instructed the new department to initiate criminal and quasi-criminal proceedings regarding all matters impacting the FCT Administration. However, it emphasized that such actions should only be taken after seeking and obtaining consent from the Attorney General of the Federation.
In a related development, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), met with the new Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 7, Aliyu Garba, and the new FCT Commissioner of Police, Garba Haruna.
During their introductory visit to his office, the Minister urged both officers to work together harmoniously to combat crime and criminal activities in the FCT.
He emphasized the importance of synergy among all security agencies and encouraged them to utilize the support of the security apparatus based in the FCT to achieve optimal results.
