Gov. Buni vows to revive, strengthen NEAZDP in Yobe

Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has pledged the government’s commitment to resuscitating and strengthening the North East Arid Zone Development Programme (NEAZDP) in the state.

Governor Buni made this announcement in his speech following his inauguration and swearing-in ceremony at the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu.

Buni emphasized that drought and desertification are the primary ecological challenges affecting the state, which are expected to persist due to global warming and climate change.

He stated, “To combat these issues, we have produced and distributed over three million seedlings of various tree species across the state. This tree planting campaign, known as the Governor Buni Climate Change Action Plan, has become an annual event in the state.”

The Governor urged all stakeholders to adopt a comprehensive approach to mitigate drought, while the government focuses on reviving and strengthening the North East Arid Zone Development Programme.

Governor Buni also highlighted the abundance of mineral resources in Yobe State, including Potash, Gypsum, Diatomite, Limestone, Kaolin, and Quartz.

He noted that the state possesses significant potential for establishing processing industries associated with pharmaceuticals, cement, glass, chalk, plaster of Paris, and soap.

Looking ahead, the present administration in the state plans to vigorously pursue the afforestation program and explore the incentives of Carbon Credit Trade.

Furthermore, the state government has already formed a committee to investigate the possibility of setting up a cement manufacturing company.

“In the next four years, as a demonstration of our concern and commitment to rapid industrial development, the state government will invite private investors to participate in greenfield industrial projects. We will focus on providing administrative incentives and creating an enabling business environment,” added the Governor.

“This aligns with our new policy direction in the state to promote ease of doing business,” Governor Buni concluded.
